Pool Etiquette
General
Please be respectful of your fellow swimmer, coaches, and board members during the swims and as well as when they make announcements or explain the workouts.
Safety
Abide by all pool safety rules (no jumping or diving into the pool at the shallow end, no running on deck, etc.).
When entering, make sure the lane is clear of any other swimmers. If there are swimmers approaching the wall as you are preparing to enter, wait until they have turned and started the next lap.
Lane Management:
We circle swim counterclockwise during practice unless directed otherwise by a coach.
Lanes are ordered from fastest to slowest and swimmers should always swim in the lane (and position within that lane) that most closely matches their ability.
Please be conscious of those swimming in front of and/or behind you.
If you want to pass the person in front of you, gently tap their foot and wait for them to stop at the next wall rather than passing in the middle of the pool.
If you stop to let someone pass, allow everyone else who is swimming closely behind that person to also pass.
When you are leading a lane, inform your lane mates when you are going to leave to start a set (e.g. “I’m leaving on the 30”).
If you aren’t leading a lane, leave at least 5 seconds behind the person in front of you.
Always swim complete laps of the pool and avoid stopping mid-lane so as to prevent collisions.
If you need to sit out an interval, move to the left corner at the end of the lane or exit the pool so that your lane mates are able to continue uninterrupted.
When finishing an interval, move to the left (and away from the wall if necessary) so that there is space for the people behind you to finish all the way to the wall.
PracticeS
Our coaches will always provide a written workout and are present on deck to explain the details of the workout.
If you need to modify the provided workout, ensure that any modifications fit within the planned workout/set so as not to disrupt the lane (our coaches can help with this) and inform your lane mates of the changes so they are aware (e.g. “I’m going to swim freestyle instead of butterfly because of my shoulder”).
Please put away all team kickboards and pull buoys at the end of practice.
